She is an author and professional speaker, as well as a recognized “branding expert” by the Associated Press, Fortune, and Inc. magazine

Dorie Clark is a frequent contributor to the Harvard Business Review, Forbes, Entrepreneur, and the World Economic Forum blog.

Her first book, Reinventing You: Define Your Brand, Imagine Your Future has been translated into Russian, Chinese, Arabic, French, Polish, and Thai.

Dorie’s newest book, Stand Out: How to Find Your Breakthrough Idea and Build a Following Around It, is available for pre-order.

She was named one of the “100 Must Follow People on Twitter” by the Huffington Post for 2013 and 2014, and she was named on the #Nifty50 list of top women on Twitter.

REINVENTING YOU – DEFINE YOUR BRAND | IMAGINE YOU FUTURE

In 2010, Dorie wrote a post for the Harvard Business Review titled, “How to reinvent your personal brand”. The post went “viral” and Dorie was able to use it as a springboard for her book Reinventing You.

More than just the author, Dorie is a practitioner having developed the methodologies by reinventing herself several times throughout her career.

She started her career with the goal to become a professor but was turned down for the doctoral program at the schools she applied.

Undeterred, Dorie decided to become a journalist and accepted a position in political journalism. This turned out to be a good move for Dorie who moved on the become a press secretary on a gubernatorial campaign and later a press secretary for a presidential campaign.

Both campaigns resulted in losses. Dorie once again had to adapt, evolve and reinvent herself.

During her journey, Dorie realized there was no guide or roadmap to teaching people how to reinvent themselves. So she leaned on her own experiences and on interviews with dozens of experts she spoke to along the way and eventually Reinventing You was born.

So how do you know it’s time to Reinvent yourself?

Dorie offers a few suggestions.

  • If you wake up and hate going to work.
  • There is something else other than your work that gets your blood pumping that might be something to start moving towards.

During our discussion, Dorie and I cover various topics such as:

  • Suggestions to get started
  • Why it’s important to start with a 360-degree review.
  • The importance of having mentors
  • Why we may need multiple mentors along the way
  • How to test drive your new chosen path without leaving your current job.
  • Strategies that we can use to safely learn, take some risks and gain the knowledge that you need for your new path
